Publishers looking to push the boundaries of what we consider a reading experience today might want to take a page out of AMC’s playbook.
The cable network offers fans of its hit shows “The Walking Dead” and “Breaking Bad” the ability to interact with the shows on tablets and smartphones as new episodes are premiering. AMC encourages more engagement with its shows before, during and after they air.
While many book publishers have created reading experiences that have mobile device companions – like Penguin Random House’s Night Film by Marisha Pessl – they may not be capturing readers’ attention at the right time and in the right way.
